      Awesome lens 4/5/2013
      Justin H from Canonsburg, PA

After reading some reviews on different sites, I decided to purchase this lens. I am so glad that I did. The 1.8 aperture is AMAZING! The focus is decently fast and unlike the kit lenses, you can manually adjust the focus after it has been auto set. The only bad part about using this lens is that I now feel the need to upgrade all of my zoom lenses to equal or better quality (I don't have the money!).

      First prime lens 3/21/2013

It's my first prime lens and so far, I'm satisfied with the pictures. Pictures are sharp and focus is fast compared to the kit lens. Performs well in low light indoor situations. Good bokeh. Light weight, and it's a perfect fit for my D3100. I think it's a good lens for the money.

Best of the Plastic DX 1/16/2013
      Wes Paul from Clermont, FL

This lens is almost perfect. The image quality is amazing and wide open produces almost perfect out of focus circles. As they say you get what you pay for which for this lens falls into the build quality. The plastic casing and manual focus ring are not high grade. This is easily shown through how many well-used lenses have a slipping focus ring that keeps spinning after you have manually focused it. Due to this not having any negative effects on auto focus and only minor annoyance in manual focus this is a great lens and should be in every Nikon DX shooter's line-up. Light weight and produces quality images.

      Very good lens 6/15/2012

Very good lens. compact and light, sharp, handy. Almost 50mm equivalent on my D5100 and D7000. Very usable f/1.8 for low light or bokeh effect. My 50mm f/1.4 has better bokeh though, but that lens is a bit too long for general walkaround. This is the lens I use mostly.

      Great value 6/15/2012

I purchased this lens for my wife to use on her D3100. She uses the camera for a 366-day project and wanted something more manageable in size. I, of course, made sure to fully evaluate the lens/camera combination before handing it over to her! The bad: It's really quite large for a crop-sensor-specific prime lens, if still significantly smaller than the kit lens. Also, it seems like the AF takes longer to lock than with the kit lens, not sure why as this doesn't make sense. AF performance makes following my 20-month-old daughter more difficult than with the kit lens. The good: This lens is shockingly good in image quality. (As is the D3100, for that matter.) It is a bit softer wide open, but not enough to bother me. The overall rendition, bokeh quality, colors, and sharpness are really excellent for the price. This is pretty much a must-have lens for crop-sensor bodies. Four stars because there are plenty better lenses out there.

      Great lens 6/14/2012

      Amazing Lens 6/11/2012

This lens is exceptional! The performance is extraordinary for the price. I would have never imagined something like this. Once I picked up this glass, I have rarely put it back down. It has great contrast and insanely sharp images. It's good for low light situations and the bokeh is great as well. If you have an opportunity to get one, do it now, you won't regret it.

      Great lens 6/11/2012

have been shooting this lens on and off for the past year now. Out of the box it feels VERY small- especially if you're used to zooms. It also feels quite plasticky or flimsy compared even to my other Nikon lens. While this was a concern initially that I bought a low end product I don't think it's been a factor at all. The benefit of course is that it's extremely lightweight (especially compared to 200mm size zooms) which makes the camera a pleasure to carry around on a hike or while traveling.

      Awesome 6/9/2012

Put this lens on a camera with good image quality at high ISOs, set it to aperture priority at f/1.8, leave the flash off and make photos that are so good that you would never miss the the "other" focal lengths that your slow zoom might have.

      Awesome 6/7/2012

This lens has turned out to be a superior lens for so many photo situations I can still highly recommend it.

Tack sharp, inexpensive, and compact 5/28/2012

The big plus with this lens over the older 35mm lens is the AF-S feature which is auto focus system that is internal to the lens, very fast and very silent. This lens will please a lot of people who currently own D40, D40x, D60, and D5000, as they now can benefit from the autofocus.

      Small fast. 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from The sticks USA

This lens is just hat I was looking for when searching for a new lens. I am a traveler and had a trip to Swaziland where I wanted a nice fast small sharp lens to capture all my memories. I have a D60 so I was limited to the AI-S models if I wanted auto-focus. The auto focus is fairly fast so it is easy to capture many of your spur of the moment shots. The lens puts out pretty sharp photos. Color is nice. The 1.8 f-stop is great for low light and the small size/weight is wonderful for travel so you can just throw it in a backpack and not have to worry about how much space it takes up. Just remember it is not a very wide angle lens so don't expect too much landscape and indoor photography. It's more of a portrait/documentary lens.

      Great and inexpensive 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from Northern VA

My main lens for low light on DX. I have the 35mm f2 AF-D but I like the speed and responsiveness of af-s more. Very quiet. Great for kids etc. Focus faster and normally dead on with d40 and d90. In my grab and go bag.

      Just the right lens 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from Suburban Chicago

This lens and a D90 replace a Leica M and a 50mm Summicron f2 I used for many years. The same setup used by Cartier-Bresson. This combination is ideal as a digital equivalent for the film camera for working in the middle of activity wherever people are going on about their lives and you want to capture exact moments. I have put black electrical tape over any logos on the camera and lens to keep from distracting the attention of people I am photographing...the same way Cartier-Bresson painted his Leicas black. Great lens just what I wanted.

      My Go To Lens 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from West Virginia

I use six lenses with my Nikon D90. I use this one more than all others combined! Very versatile especially for low light movement and realistic perspective (1.5x crop factor results in natural 52mm.) Sharp even at the edges and a champ at f/1.8. If I was stuck on the proverbial desert island with one lens - this is it.

      Real Life Perspective 5/27/2011

This is one of the best lenses you can use to capture the world as you see it. This is a DX so no luck with the D3 or D700. The 1.8 is plenty wide to shoot low ISO in dusk conditions. This thing takes in light when it is hardly there. Great prime lens to have in you bag or on a second camera body.
